Sometimes people are shy or think their questions are too basic to ask, but neither is true! Email me your concerns and questions and I'll answer them here.

Q: I've always had a weak back, but I'm not in pain right now. Will exercise hurt me?

A: No, but you might feel some tension in that area, which is a good thing! A weak back that surfaces without injury or overwork comes from weak abdomen muscles. Start doing some crunches and other abdomen exercises instead of back exercises. You'll feel fine.

Q: Will working out make me hungry? I'm always watching my weight.

A: Yes. Working out, especially resistance training, will make you hungry because it increases your resting metabolism. The good news is your body is burning off calories and sending hunger signals as you rest (i.e. sitting, lying down) This is your goal! You want to be hungry every three to four hours. This means your body is burning off calories and not storing any as FAT. Being hungry is a good thing. If you're not particularly hungry, that is unhealthy.

Q: What if I'm not overweight but my bodyfat assessment is higher than the recommended percentage?

A: Your weight consists of two things: body fat and lean body mass. You can carry a lot of body fat and not be considered overweight. Lean body mass weighs more than body fat. In fact, you can be almost all body mass and be considered overweight because body mass weighs more than fat...but you are healthy because you have very little body fat on you! This is why you shouldn't focus on your weight. Your main focus should be trimming body fat, because it is body fat that is unhealthy.
